“My internship has taught me so much about where I can go with my education and what I can do in the future. It was also wonderful knowing that my internship would appear on my transcript as well as earning me 3 extra credits for the fall semester. Since I am planning on taking the Certified Public Accountant exam, in which you need 150 credits to take, it was a really nice way of earning extra credits.”

Major: Financial Economics and Accounting Certificate

Internship Site: AAI Corporation

Location: Hunt Valley, MD

Title: Pricing and Estimating Summer Intern

Position Description: I work in the Pricing and Estimating department at AAI. Our main goal is to take the estimates we’ve received from the engineers and project managers to come up with the most accurate price we can for our customers. In addition to this, we also provide many graphs, charts, and reports to assist our project manager in selling our product to our potential customer. I am also working a lot with excel to create macros. These macros vary from helping us import information more efficiently to creating easy to comprehend and organized reports and charts.

What are the benefits of participating in an internship, co-op, service-learning or research experience?

I’m learning a lot of new and exciting things! Not only do I now know how my major can be applied in the “real world,” but I am learning a lot about my strengths and weaknesses. For example, in my department, I found that writing macros is a strength of mine. I’m also learning a lot about the company I work for, about working in an office environment, and different ways of keeping myself organized.
