Application to the Shriver Peaceworker Program
Application for a Shriver Peaceworker Fellowship has several key components: A personal statement, documents pertaining to your academic, work, and service background, and letters of recommendation. Each of these components is carefully considered in the selection process. Additionally, when required, phone interviews are conducted as a part of final selection. Applications are considered once annually and are due by January 15 of each year. Review and selection takes place during February and March and Fellowship invitations are extended in early April. Awards are for one year and under normal circumstances are renewable for a second year. The program starts the last week of July, beginning with the Peaceworker Proseminar and community service placements. Full-time academic study starts with the Fall semester (usually the end of August). Remember that you must apply separately for admission to your graduate program. Please check directly with the UMBC Graduate School or your Consortium Institution for application procedures and materials. Your application to graduate school and your application for a Shriver Peaceworker Fellowship are distinct and separate processes and may require you to arrange duplicate submissions of letters and transcripts. When making your application or arranging recommendation letters from overseas please feel free to send preliminary copies electronically, but subsequently follow this by mailing hard copy originals. Please note the special fee waiver for Peace Corps Volunteers applying to UMBC programs during their service tour. If you have questions regarding the application process, please contact the program staff at 410-455-1802. We’ll look forward to receiving your application! |
