The Governor's Summer Internship Program
Message from Governor Martin O'Malley:
As we continue to work to help Maryland become a better place to live and work, it is critical that we keep an eye to the future. This necessitates creating a climate in which promising students are encouraged to put their talents to use in public service. With this thought in mind, we are proud to announce that preparations for The 2008 Governor's Summer Internship Program (GSIP) are underway. By coupling in-depth policy research with full-time work in our office and other executive departments and agencies, the Governor's Summer Internship Program exposes high-achieving undergraduate students to the substantive day-to-day work of Maryland. We, therefore, encourage you to consider hosting a Governor's Summer Intern.
(Click here to obtain a 2008 Intern Request Form).
For 10 weeks this summer (June 2 to August 8, 2008), interns will be assigned a mentor, who both supervises and accepts the responsibility and challenge of serving as a role model. Completed Intern Request Forms will assist us in developing successful placements based upon the students' interests and agency needs. In selecting a mentor, please be sure that this individual develops a clear description of the projects to be assigned to the intern and that these projects merit the talent and achievement of Maryland's brightest college students. We hope that you will consider providing interns with opportunities to interact with you, by either including them in meetings in your office or taking them to meetings or events outside of the office.
Your completed 2008 Intern Request Forms should be emailed to Mr. Mike Oettel, Coordinator of the Governor’s Summer Internship Program, at moettel@umbc.edu.
Mr. Oettel can be contacted at 410-455-2493 or via email with any questions or concerns.
Request forms should be submitted no later than Monday, March 24, 2008 so that intern assignments can be made by the first week of May.
