The Shriver Center at UMBC serves as a national leader in applied learning, civic engagement, and community-based service delivery programs.

Center initiatives include:

• Internship, Cooperative Education, and Research
• Service-Learning (including K-12 Partnerships)
• The Shriver Peaceworker Program, and
• The Choice Program.

Through these programs faculty connect their research and teaching to relevant social needs, and students link academic study to professional practice and service to the community. The Center’s multifaceted approach was recognized by the Templeton Foundation as a “prototype for urban education in the 21st century.”
